Thanks Greg,

It appears that most scientists who study the matter of lead in electronics
(beyond the cursory "don't bother me with science" approach taken by the EU's
Parliament) agree with your observations.

That said, the EU's exemption review committee, who appear to have been well
credentialed, punted rather than address the science based argument offered by
John Burke.

As the IPC board has said and continues to say lead free is about marketing
and not about the environment (though they like many others clearly understand
that there is much money to be made by providing education in the wake of the
legislation)

While nothing will change immediately, having such honest assessments from
principled scientists will help in the long run.

Moreover, as evident from your report, there are many real and more urgent
challenges that need addressing.
