As Chair of the IPC Cleaning & Coating Committee for over 15 yrs., we
discussed the relationship of ionic level & Class. The consensus was that the mil
level, which is the basis of the acceptance level in MIL-P-28809 and later
J-STD-001 was easily achievable, thus there was no point in trying to set ionic
levels for each Class.
Also, there was no barrier to specific hi-rel applications to call out more
stringent requirements in their contracts.
This has been the 'modus operandi' since 1975.
