Nickel is more corrosion resistant, stronger, less electrically
conductive, and far less thermally conductive than copper. I've used
nickel leads for applications where there's a lot of
soldering/de-soldering involved. They seem to hold up well and you can
easily solder the other end of a very short wire without the first end
melting. I suspect it performs better than copper in cyclic fatigue
testing, but I would look that up if I were you. The oxide which forms
on it is pretty tough to remove--I use ScotchBrite on the nickel wire
and fully activated flux to get it to tin.

You often see battery leads of nickel--probably welds easily, and that
process can be designed to punch through the oxide.

Because the nickel is stronger, it will transfer more stress between a
board and component, so you may want to use longer strain relief twists
in the leads if that's a possible problem.

Hi Technos,

I would like to know how the Ni pins measure up against Cu in terms of
short term (thermal shock and vibration) and long term reliability.

Any experiences with that?

Thanks,

Ioan
