I was wondering if anyone knew of a specification document that gives
the guidelines for "Air Particle" acceptable measurement for the
atmosphere of an electronic manufacturing facility.

The Institute of Environmental Science and Technology (IEST) sets up the
criteria and measurement methods to determine class 10, 100, 1000, etc.
Consult their web site and perhaps take one of their courses.

In addition, they have a fair amount of literature on required cleanliness
levels for various manufacturing operations, particularly with regard to
semiconductors.

The Technology subcommittee of the IPC Suppliers Council has been trying to
gather data on required cleanliness for various board fab operations - lay-up
of innerlayers for lamination, phototoool generation, resist exposure, laser
direct imaging, etc. Many shops use clean rooms, or clean areas, but there
is little yield data for the fab steps with and without clean atmospheres. I
have seen pretty good data for yeilds with clean rooms for laminate
manufacturers, but I don't know if this would translate to board shop MLB lay-up.

Perhaps others will contribute to this thread, and pet project of Jack
Fisher on the IPC Suppliers Council will get off the ground.
