Ron,
We do have some loss during operation but the bulk is coming from setup
and tear down. Knowing your machines as well as I do, I'm sure you have
the same issue.

Larry,

Your lost of parts maybe correlated to the type of PNP Machine you are
using. I would suggest looking into what type of new or used feeders
are available for your type of PNP machine. At our company we us QUAD's
(which aren't top of the line), but they work fine. We find out that
most of or loses are from incorrect teaching of feeders, losing parts in
the dump bucket, etc.... Could those also be factors to your lost of
parts as well or is it only setup and teardown?

Subject: [TN] Setup/tear down loss

I was wondering if anyone has found a unique way to reduce the amount of
component loss due to the setups and tear downs of SMT feeders. Our
feeders peel the cover tape back about 2-3 inches leaving several parts
exposed and when the reel is removed from the feeder we typically lose
the parts that are no longer covered unless the operator is extremely
careful. I have had the cover tape "taped" back down in the past but it
really increases the amount of time it takes to load the feeder the next
time due to having to remove the tape. I know there are feeders from
other companies that have less loss due to the feeder design but there
are a lot of us that have this problem I'm sure. Just curious how
others handle this.

TIA for your feedback,

Larry
