Greg,
I'm not 100% sure on this, but I think the HC stood for
(H)ermetically sealed (C)rystal, but again, I'm not sure, it's been a
Looong time since I looked it up. HC was always a package designator to
me, so I didn't worry much about it stood for. :-) Likewise, if I
remember right, the "U" stands for "Un-repairable microcircuit, i.e. IC.
I believe we use to use "M" before "U" became standard and I think that
stood for "Microcircuit" which is true, but it didn't indicate it wasn't
repairable. I'm sure someone else can correct me if I'm wrong and most
likely am... :-)
Later...

Subject: [TN] HC-49 Crystals

Hi,

Probably a stupid question but..... what does the 'HC' stand for on
HC-49
(eg) crystals?

I know it's the holder type and it's to do with the old MIL3098 spec,
but I
guess it actually stands for something.

Likewise the 'U' at the end of most?

cheers

Greg
