Further to your article "A price worth paying" by GEOFFREY LEAN, Daily

Mail 08:19am 26th July 2006, maybe you would give some space to an

article published in a recent electronics publication which is the truth

of the matter rather than the unsubstantiated fabrications of Mr Lean

whose article over sensationalises the issues with questionable

assertions.

The article by Joseph Fjelstad can be found at the link below, which

judged by his peers comments on electronic industry forums is a true

picture of the impact of this legislation.

The media are reaching out to the public too late with inaccurate

information. It is a pity the media could not have become as emotive

about the issues several years ago.

The industry in general supports good recycling and in broad terms

supports the WEEE initiative, however unlike the removal of lead from

petrol and paint, the removal of lead from electronics will have

negligible positive impact on the environment and looks only set to

bring indirect negative impact overall.

(Opinions expressed above are my own and not necessarily that of my

employer.)
