Hello Pete,

I am just hours away from sending out a proposed amendment to IPC-6012B,
and one of the corrections listed in that amendment is changing the TML
value to 1.0% instead of 0.1%, so you are correct in that this was an
error.

Also, section 3.10 are special requirements, and as shown at the end of
Table 4-3. the test frequency for Outgassing is "as specified by
contract or master drawing", so IPC-6012B does not call out a testing
requirement.

Subject: [IPC-600-6012] Outgassing Requirement of IPC 6012

All,

We have historically called out outgassing to ASTM 595 for Total Mass
Loss (TML) and Collected Volatile Condensable Materials (CVCM). Typical
values are 1.0% TML and .1% CVCM

We want to standardize using paragraph 3.10.1 in 6012 but there's are a
couple problems.

First I believe there is an error in the requirement. 3.10 states TML
0.1%. I don't know of any materials that will meet that requirement.
The first question then is "Is this an error in the specification?"

The second question is the testing requirement. When invoked every lot
would have to be tested - similar to a Group A test. The second
question then is "Is this meant to be a lot test requirement?"

Thanks in advance.
