Hi all ya'll!!

I'm looking for some stand-off cutters to cut the pins of a circular
military connector. These connectors are on the same board that I was
asking about the lead-shear for the big rectangular 421-pin connector a
couple of weeks ago.

We've been using something similar to a .060" pin gage, laying it down
on the surface of the PCB, and then use side cutters to trim the leads
to height. The pin gage is difficult to use because these are round
connectors, and there's SMT close to the connector footprint...it's just
really tedious to trim the pins, and there's a LOT of them!

Look at: http://www.stevezeva.homestead.com/files/RigidFlex.jpg to see
what I'm talking about. There's 6 connectors total on each assembly, and
all of them need to have the leads trimmed. We've found some pins that
are similar to these that we can get that won't need trimming, but of
course the customer will have to approve them. This being a military
assembly, I don't see that happening anytime soon. So we have to deal
with trimming them for now. The biggest difficulty is because the leads
are so close together.

I found some Excelta 907-5 "Stand-off, transverse, shear cutters" that
will trim the leads to .040", which is just what we want. They are
tapered at the tips and can get down inside the pins. But they're
3-weeks out since they are custom ordered.

I was wondering if any of you know of any other manufacturers that make
hand tools like this that might be a little quicker?

I appreciate it!
