My understanding is that it is only the polyimide film which has
anything to do with DuPont (under the "Kapton" trademark). Adhesive tape
manufacturers then put on the adhesive, of which there are a number of
types/chemistries and which is usually proprietary to the tape people. 

Actually, my suspicion is that very few if any "Kapton" tapes are made
with DuPont's product any more - there is a shortage, cos the flexi guys

Normal adhesive types include silicone (for high temperature resistance
- why don't you want it?) and various acrylics.
