IPC 610 has a section on acceptability of PCBs, with class 2 and class 3
parameters. Practically, you could not know which class the PCB was
manufactured to when it comes in, but you can apply class 3 inspection
criteria prior to use. Off the cuff without thoroughly comparing the two,
the only thing you won't account for are thickness values of surface finish
and conductors specified in IPC 600 and 6012 that are not covered by 610 and
not identifiable through normal inspection.

Cheers,

Chad

Subject: [TN] Class 2 PCB Fabrication vs Class 3 Assembly Compatibility

T'netters,

How compatible is a class 2 PCB to achieve a class 3 assembly? My question
presumably leads to process capability and PPM levels, but does a class 2
then not cap what an assembly process can achieve during assembly?

Regards
Grant
