There is a picture and a part dimension picture on the datasheet that
shows the metal jacket around the part body that creates a flat surface
for pick up and two legs to prevent rolling. As long and the two legs
on the jacket and the leads are on the same plane, I agree in theory
there should not be a problem. Are there any special pick up nozzle
requirements for these?

Hi James,
If the part comes in on tape'n'reel it shouldn't be a problem for
pick'n'place machines to slap down. I don't see the "clip" in the
drawing, just a recommended pad layout. We have placed parts like these
with 1997 vintage machines.
Regards,
Martin

Subject: [TN] Leadformed metal can crystals with SMT jacket
For cost an board space reasons we need to use a leadformed 2x6 mm metal
can crystal with a SMD clip like the part shown here:
http://www.citizencrystal.com/images/pdf/ks-cmj206.pdf
Not the exact manufacturer, but mechanically equivalent part in a
different frequency from Oscilent. Is there anyone out there that is
using this type of package with the clip successfully in a high volume
application? How are you putting it down?
