I do not claim to be a researcher but it seems to me that having particulate
lead from circuit boards wind up in drinking water systems is a little bit .
. . unlikely to say the least. Even having it show up in such systems from
plumbing work comes across as a stretch -- unless the plumber is using some
really unusual methods such as grinding soldered joints apart. Then some
metallic particles could conceivably wind up inside a pipe. But the water
stream should wash them away rather quickly. (Yes, I know the article says
they are becoming entrained in the aerator screens. But I find I have to
clean those out occasionally as they plug up with mineral deposits -- maybe
my water is harder than most.) (BTW - any licensed plumber in the U.S. has
been using lead-free solder for more than the last decade.) So I think
somebody is trying to fuel the fires of fear, uncertainty, doubt and panic
with this article. And those fires burn hot enough already -- they started
this train called RoHS rolling and now it is out-of-control.

Happy Canada Day to our Canadian friends -- you do indeed get a brief
respite from this nonsense. With the Fourth coming up, a lot of Americans
will enjoy a long weekend too.

Thanks Mark.

Unfortunately, while the article identifies what may be a legitimate
concern, this is the kind of story that has been repeatedly used by those
seeking to
prop up lead-free solder for electronics even though it which has a zero
relationship beyond the use of the element's name in the article.

That said, I wish that these folks would provide links to the papers when
they publish conclusions without data rather than make one dig or ask for
them.
I think it of benefit to see their methods and data to understand how they
came to their findings. I have seen too much shoddy research in my life to
be
comfortable with conclusions alone.

I guess they don't think "us poor country folks" are smart enough and would
like to treat us sort of like the politicians do. ;-)

Kind regards,
Joe
