And then you need to look at the economics............. unless you
already have a suitably cognizant team in place to run all the aspects
plus when you add in the cost of shipping WEEE back, it is much more
cost effective in most cases to join a compliance scheme.............

It is viable, they do have to register, they may have to set up an
escrow
account. It is at the discretion of the country concerned when they
register.

If they are a "producer" I believe they will, in fact, not be in
compliance
with the WEEE directive or most if not all the laws that implement it. I
recall looking in to this a couple years ago and, while it's a viable
part
of a compliance program, the company may still have to register and may
even
have to join a local scheme.
On the other hand if they are taking this approach with you, and you are
an
OEM that rebrands then resells their server product you (or your
VARs/distributors) are the WEEE stuck-ee and it barely matters what your
suppliers think their responsibilities are...unless you pass some of
your
responsibilities back to them.
