Revision B of IPC-4101 is in the balloting process. All Bromines that
are listed are designated as RoHS Compliant.

Thanks Ian-

I found another reference to this material elsewhere, so am starting to
feel warm and fuzzy (but that's another story).

Is the revision to IPC-4101 that specifies /98 actually released yet?

Best Regards,
-Chris

Chris, RoHS doesn't bar the use of the Br retardants usually used in the
epoxy/glass used in PCBs (tetrabromobisphenol A), so you don't
necessarily need a halogen free material for RoHS compliance unless you
absolutely want to future proof the design. As far as materials go I'd
probably reference 4101/98 which is a filled material with halogen
retardant (polyclad 370HR being an example of the type) which gives
improved via reliability from a degree of Z-axis CTE control resulting
from the filler addition. I'm not sure that the halogen free materials
are sufficiently mature yet and have no experience with them so can't
recommend one, but 370HR is good.

Hello Folks-

We're trying to cost a new design which may have to be leadfree, rohs
compliant, etc...

We would otherwise reference IPC4101/21. Any recommendations as to what
we should specify for this one? We were gonna ref. /24 but that's got
bromine......

Thanks in Advance,
-Chris
