End of the day it all depends on the end application. We have built boards for the automotive industry where the edge to nearest copper feature is only 10mils, but the board is mounted on an aluminum casing & conformal coated so there is no shorting. Then you have the heavy copper jobs which they will not accept any exposed copper, again depends on the market it is being sold to, if it is Japan no way. Then you have the edge plated boards which have metal exposed all round the board, but this is for a different application. So end of the day it is application, customer, market segment etc.,
