I don't understand what you mean by the "then one of the alloy components"
statement. However, if your lab is testing by Sn/Pb standards, then you
should fail the high amount of tin every time. My lab tests with an SN96.5
spec. What was funny is that one test we "failed" or we were out of spec on
the SN content, but they had inadvertently selected SN96 for the test
instead of SN96.5. Even that minute change threw us off (they corrected it
though), so I think testing to Sn/Pb would make you fail every time.

Subject: [TN] Maximum Contamination Levels in Solder

I have the solder tested in my solder pots on a regular basis. However, the
testing lab continues to provide results based on Sn/Pb standards even
though the solder is lead-free. The lab clarifies the results with the "if
not one of the alloy components" statement.

I was wondering if there was a different contamination levels chart for
lead-free solder that I could get my testing lab to use.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
