Hi Don,
Even though it doesn't have a direct explanation of, or picture of, the
exact scenario you mentioned below, IPC-A-610D does cover "birdcaging" in
section 6.9.2, under the heading of "Strand Separation". I would expect the
same criteria to apply to  a solder junction using stranded wire on
bifurcated, slotted and cupped type terminals. However, possibly someone
else out there has a more definitive answer and source for the answer...

Can anyone  supply a description of accept/reject criteria for birdcaging on
stranded wire being soldered into a cup type terminal?  Which specification
contains the criteria?
