Come to think of it, so did we.

1x board thickness must have been our standard, too

(Memory is the second thing to go (:^} )

...we routinely punched dip and sip patterns of 40mil holes on 100mil
centers on 60 mil thick CEM-1. 1x board thickness was considered min
spacing between punched features but we could cheat it a little if we
had
to. Maybe because we had 2-stage punch?

If I remember correctly...

I don't think we punched anything less than 40 mil [1 mm]. I don't
think there WAS a maximum, but I can't remember punching larger than a
60 mil [1.5 mm] round hole. We commonly punched slots for relay frame
leads and such that had the long dimension larger than that, though.
Minimum spacing was 1.5X board thickness, but usually that was not a
problem as we used around a 20 mil [0,5 mm] annular ring on the pads and
between minimum spacing and annular ring were usually further apart than
we needed.

The insertion folks preferred the punched boards, too. The holes were
slightly larger on the insertion side of the board than on the copper
side so they could run the VCD inserters faster than they could for an
equivalent drilled hole (or so they claimed, anyway).

I would like to also, George...

If you can recall and don't mind sharing the info, what was he minimum
hole
size you punched and what was the maximum number? Also what minimum
spacing
was allowed?

Thanks.

Kind regards,
Joe
