Franklin,
We're Aerospace so we have been AS9100 from the start. We are also ISO
9001, 9002. One answer to your question is somewhere in between the good
responses you have already gotten. The second, as I dig into my pocket
to contribute to the Doug Pauls Scholarship Fund, is it depends. It
depends on how many processes you have either documented, certified or
qualified. It depends on how many Key or Diamond Characteristics have
been flowed down to you contractually by your customer. It depends on
what level you are trying to achieve or maintain in a Capability
Maturity Model. All of these will require you to capture, archive and
produce on demand artifacts that demonstrate compliance. This then
becomes your audit path to verification and acceptance.
Simple terms: Document what you do; follow the documented processes;
demonstrate knowledge of the process; demonstrate awareness of the
verification requirements and live happily ever after, or at least until
the next audit.

Subject: [TN] ISO 9001 to AS9100 transition

I'm interested to know how many companies have transitioned to AS9100
from ISO 9001.

Is there a tremendous push from OEM's for this?

In reviewing both documents what I see are heritage elements from ISO
9002:1994 and QS 9000:1994 combined with ISO 9001:2000. How significant
were the changes to quality systems in making the transition to AS9100?

Just doing some research, any input would be appreciated.

Franklin
