I guess all that any of us can do is experiment.

I remember many years ago Western Electric was limited (by us smart folks)
to no more than one panel per lamination opening. The press operator (not an
engineer) showed us that this was a ridiculous taboo.

This became a mind broadening event for many of us to say the least as the
cost savings was enormous.
