Sounds like the solftware was installed under admin rights, which it did
not need to be, and is looking for the files to associate the profile
with your user rights. Try to install again without IT intervention.
This will also happen if the user rights have been changed on the
DOMAIN, and you are logged into the Domain when using the program. To
check - have your IT organism give you admin rights local, login local
and try and run the program again - if it works it is rights related and
you need an IT'cillin.

Subject: [TN] Need Technical Help - ECAD tool conflict
After trying a few things, I need to reach out to the best technical
user base I know; TechNet;
This is a first problem with these symptoms, so I can only ask around.
I am running XP Pro on a Intel based 3 Ghz & 1.5 Gb Ram PC
I have 2 ECAD tools no PCB fellow should be without. I know they run
well together because I had them running together several
Months ago. I don't know what changed. All I did was have Altium
Designer 6 ( Protel ) installed ( actually my IS support person insisted
on doing it ).
I have a licensed gerber viewer from RSI called Vision ( Great tool BTW
) and the free 3D viewer eDrawings2006 ( another great FREE tool ).
Problem;
I can run CamCad Vision fine by itself. But when I try to run
eDrawings2006 viewer, it instantly invokes the windows installer, which
tries to install
CamCad Vision. CamCad Vision is already installed & runs fine, so I
don't know what tells it to do this. If I just let it go it keeps trying
to install, then just eventually stops & nothing happens. It doesn't
finish, so I have to end the process thru windows. eDrawings2006 never
comes up either. If I uninstall CamCad Vision, then eDrawings2006 viewer
runs fine. Then I re-install CamCad Vision & the same problem comes
back.
What I already tried;
I uninstalled both programs & installed again. First I installed over
top of itself, being told this may clean up the registry entries. But it
didn't fix the problem. Then I uninstalled each separately, then
verified each runs.
I viewed the registry but did not make any changes there as I still find
the registry very cryptic. So I choose to remain in the viewers gallery.
Any leads, ideas or tips would be appreciated. Someone, somewhere at
some time must have had this happen & found a method of repair. We (I)
may not fully understand how & why it works, but as long as it results
in a clean reliable fix, then I am happy.
Regards
TDK
