Franklin,

AS9100 is necessary if you are targeting the Aerospace market. If you are
dealing with most of the Primes (Boeing, Lockheed etc.) you will be asked at
some point to become AS9100 certified.  Boeing already requires it before
you'll be considered.

The good news adoption of the requirements of AS9100 are not that much more
than ISO9000:2000.  Remember, AS9100 is ISO + a few additional requirements.

For my two cents worth - its not that much more effort to acheive AS9100
certification.
