Just to close the loop on an old thread.

I have decided to use the Teka connectors as they are now supplied lead
free. The connectors are only supplied in a no-clean flux configuration but
I have been running them through a water wash system with no adverse
affects.

The biggest challenge is to get a profile that will reflow the connector
solder and not be too hot for the balance of the SMT components. It has been
working OK to date. I expect better results as I increase the volume of
parts to get a good sample size to do additional process development.

WHOOPS! I meant PC104.....

I read a couple of later posts, and you said that you are
lead free...that pretty much eliminates my suggestion.

I use connectors from Teka (http://www.takais.com) they
have something they call "Solder-bearing Lead Technology"
with solder pre-forms and flux incorporated into each lead that
you can reflow. But they only have tin/lead preforms.

But you might check with them to see if they are thinking about
doing lead-free connectors.

Steve,
We call it a PC104 design. Is that the same as PC105? Joel

Hi Joel!

These pins wouldn't be on a PC105 standard
assembly would they?

I have a number of assemblies that have long (0.5") connector pins that
must
be soldered in the board. The pins must remain gold so at the moment I am
trying to hand solder. This is a difficult process. The 0.100" spacing
makes
it difficult for my production personnel to solder without getting solder
on
the gold pins.

The connectors are double row and there are two beside one another creating
a four pin bank of 0.100" spaced pins. Any thoughts on how I can improve
this process for the soldering personnel would be greatly appreciated.
