You can do this to a certain extent, but only with very low current/low
dissipation power levels. You must remember you are esentially burying
these components between layers of fiberglass.
What keeps your house warm in the wintertime?
There are many other factors, of course, and being a mechanical engineer
I am sure you are aware that the material properties of the board need
to be factored in, like the Tg, Td, CTE, how much flex can you impart on
the board, what type of stresses will be seen in its service life, etc.,
etc.

Subject: [TN] embedded components

Hello-

I've read about capacitors and resistors buried in PCBs. I'm wondering
if it's possible to do the same with diodes and transistors?

If not, why not?

I'm not in the electronics industry, I'm a mechanical designer. If we
were able to do something like an embedded semiconductor, it could
really help with a problem I'm working on. Google only gives a ton of
stuff regarding firmware.

TIA!

BC
