The European Union, the United States and China are independently initiating
Restrictions on the use of Hazardous Substances (commonly referred to as
"RoHS") and the labeling and disposition of equipment that incorporates
hazardous substances (WEEE). The European Union has issued a RoHS
Directive restricting the use of six substances effective July 1, 2006. The
banned substances are: (1)Lead, (2)Cadmium, (3)Hexavalent-Chromium,
(4)Mercury,(5)Polybrominated Biphenyls ("PBB"), and (6) Polybrominated
Diphenyls Ethers ("PBDE"). The Directive allows exceptions for leaded solder
in certain types of equipment. Industry practice has been to refer to those
applications that require mediation of all six substances as "RoHS-6"
compliant, and those applications that do not eliminate leaded solder as
"RoHS-5" compliant.
With kind regard,
Ramon Essers

Onderwerp: [TN] RoHS R5?
Sure is quiet around here these days! Is everyone enjoying the show?
Does anyone know the meaning and or significance of "R5" in reference to
RoHS?
