Nic and others.

Compny X's equipment seems to fall into a combination of 2 sub-categories of
category 8, namely "Measuring, weighing or adjusting appliances for
household or as laboratory equipment" and
"Other monitoring and control instruments used in industrial installations
(e.g. in control panels)"

Furthermore it does not appear to fall into any of categories 1-7 and 10.

So my view, with the usual caveats, is that it is exempt.

Subject: [LF] Category View Sought

Dear All,

Company X manufactures electronic surveying equipment that is used to
accurately determine the Azimuth and inclination of boreholes allowing the
path to be accurately plotted and if required corrected during a run. They
operate in very harsh conditions and are exposed to heavy impact and extreme
vibration. Primary failure mode is shock damage. Common uses are to ensure
accurate borehole positioning for blast holes, geologically critical pier
foundations and locating ore bodies.

Am I right to assume that this comes under Category 9 "Monitoring and
Control Equipment" - and hence is exempt (for a while) from RoHS? All
components are lead-free, but the solder isn't.

Any thoughts anyone?

Nic Bowker
