Subject: [LF] DTi - unofficial note

The UK Department of Trade and Industry have posted an "Unofficial note"
of the meeting of the "Technical Adaptation Committee on the WEEE and RoHS Directives" held in Brussels on 15 February 2006.
You will find it on their web
<http://www.dti.gov.uk/sustainability/weee/TAC_15Feb06.pdf >

The report gives a some insight on what is happening about allowing or denying the various RoHS exemption applications that are in the pipeline.

The Commission has engaged the Öko-Institut to review the 50 or so exemption requests that it has received since the completion of the first stakeholder consultation exercise in February last year. The Öko-Institut is reporting on a monthly basis to the Commission, which then decides whether to put specific exemption proposals to the TAC for vote.

The Commission proposed the adoption of six new exemptions but - following discussions with Member States - withdrew one of these. A Qualified Majority Vote was reached on the remaining five.

The meeting report also has details of a discussion on the interpretation of "Fixed Installation".
