As Rob has said they are exempt. What you will need to do is have a
certificate or letter from your supplier stating that they are 'compliant
by exemption', the directive number and the levels that occur. This,
perhaps with in independent audit (like XRF) should give you the necessary
paper trail if you were to get audited. You may also want to flag it on
you database system. its worth looking at the RS components website to
see this in action.

[LF] RoHS compliant relays
My supplier has presented a relay that is proported to be RoHS
compliant, yet contains cadmium. He says this is allowed by the
directive; I cannot find anything that specifically allows this. The
supplier states that relays have been given an exemption since no
substitute has been found for cadmium in relay contacts.
My concern is if our products (PCB industrial controls) are checked with
a FXR will the cadmium show up? If so, even if relays are exempt, will
this be a reason for push back of our product.
