There must be many product manufacturers who have lifetime stocks of End
of Life discontinued components that are no longer available, typically
used in older products.

Besides considering having the parts reprocessed to replace lead tinning
on the leads with RoHS compliant alternatives, and then having to hand
solder them due to the inability to withstand 260 deg reflow, are there
any other alternatives?

Shouldn't there have been an exemption for this situation for the smaller
manufacturer who cannot afford to redesign their whole product range?
