Thanks for the copy of the article. You know, I may have read it back in
1998 but was too busy working to do anything with it other than file it with
all my old magazines... (I'm a hopeless pack rat)
Of course Mary Sugden's input into anything makes it terrific, she is a
great teacher and very knowledgeable. I'm not sure who Mona Johnson is but
she is named co-author with Mary in the article. Maybe someone can expand on
that...
So they break it down into 5 categories in the PCD article.
PCB Designer/drafter
Junior PCB Designer
PCB Designer
Senior PCB Designer
PCB Design Engineer
I'm sure that is the way it was in 1998. We had 'Junior Drafters', 'Document
clerks', 'Senior Drafters', and 'Designers' in places where I worked.
It really hasn't changed a whole lot since then but there are a few more
categories I think we could add to it...
Maybe the survey that I used to get the descriptions I put on my website was
attempting to be more sensitive to 'class distinctions' and used level 1,2,3
categories instead of junior, senior, etc... to describe the
skill/competency levels.
I think CAD librarian needs to be defined and is definitely 'PCB Design'
related. Actually it is sort of a specialist type job that supports the
designers as a group... Does anyone have a description of that position
available?
Do you think that there are any other positions that should be a part of the
list?
Best regards,
