Victor,
Compliant pin connectors are typically used on assemblies that are difficult to solder.  These are usually thick backplanes (.125" - .300" and up).  The heat required to wet and flow solder joints through thick boards can be detrimental.  Compliant contacts are ideal in these situations.  When using compliant contacts,hole size is critical (both drill and finish.
I know this is a very general answer.  What is your application?
