Hi Phil: Unfortunately his statement about the eyelash spec of 63/37
tin/lead solder in a Sherman tank is basically true. Except I guess a
Sherman tank would have a military exemption.

The problem is bigger is not better everything is broken down to it's
lowest homogenous common denominator. In this case the actual tin/lead
solder which would exceed the 0.1% lead threshold. Crazy huh.

I have to share this tidbit from a phone call I just completed.
 
The vendor is under the impression that circuit boards of a small size,
smaller than a cell phone sized board, do not have to comply with RoHS!
 
WOW!
 
So, under that philosophy I could make my entire product a series of
dinky boards with tin/lead solder and comply.  KEWL!  Wait till
manufacturing sees this design.  <grin>
 
This same vendor told me he had a customer that suggested that even in
something the size of a Sherman tank that had an eye lash sized spec of
tin/lead solder the whole product was non-compliant.
 
There sure is room for interpretation in the Directive and look at the
misinformation people are working under.
