A bus of designers?
A crock of accountants?
A yawn of marketing researchers?
A hype of account managers?

(somebody stop me...)

Subject: [TN] NTC - Nouns of Assemblage

We have been having snow flurries today here in Ottawa. This is an
improvement over the driving snows of last week, and it's warmed up to
-6C.
The Holidays are upon us, everyone seems a little excited, good spirits
abound. In the spirit of the season....

I am a biologist who started working in the electronic industry 29 years
ago
(started on x-sections). I rarely get to use the primary scope of my
education in this industry. Oh if someone gets hurt I can apply a bit
of
human anatomy and physiology, sickness allows me some respite in
patho-physiology, down stream from the ammonical etcher allows a jump
into
extreme ecology and the possibility to describe a new species or two,
but
the majority of the time its, electronics, material sciences, physics
and
chemistry.

I am very content to be a biologist in the electronics industry but I do
miss my original calling. I on occasion try to bring a little bit of
bio
into my work. To that end....

In biology we have nouns of assemblages. For example; a "gaggle" of
geese,
a "herd" of cows, or a "flock" of birds. "Gaggle", "herd" and "flock"
are
the nouns used to describe the assemblages of those animals. Some of my
favorite nouns of assemblages are a "pride" of lion, a "murder" of crows
and
a "parliament" of owls. We had a "parliament" of Great Horned Owls
living
in the eves of our house in Calgary a few years ago. I was proud of our
"parliament"; the cat seems a little nervous that year.

Indulge a biologist; what are the nouns of assemble in this industry?
What
noun describes a gathering of electrical engineers, quality managers or
company presidents?

We call 6 IST test coupons connected by V-scoring a "raft" of coupons.
Are
there nouns of assemblage for a box of resistors, IC, or connectors?

Would two or more electrical engineers be called a "shock" of double
eagles?
Could one say that two or more quality directions is a "statement" of
quality directors?

Sincerely,

Paul Reid
