Trevor,
I stand corrected, thanks for pointing that out. But shouldn't the
T&B declaration state that their parts are in compliance with RoHS? Or state
"compliant in accordance with Note 7 of the Directive Annex"? The way that
T&B currently has it worded, you don't know if they are compliant per the
Annex (under 4%) or non-compliant (over 4%). You definitely need to ask T&B,
and get their response in writing to demonstrate a minimum level of due
diligence....

Phil/Mike,

Lead up to a maximum of 4.0% is permitted in copper alloy.

Phil,
If the homogenous copper 'amalgam' contains more than 0.1% lead by
weight, the part is not compliant. I have seen quite a few vendors using
this "compliant except for" terminology, and find it alternately amusing and
aggravating. Your part is either compliant or it's not, there's no
in-between. That's like your daughter coming home and saying she's just a
little bit pregnant....

Mike

If the lead is a part of the alloy for ductility isn't it then homogeneous?
If not, then we are forced to remove this vendor from our approved vendor
list.

This brings up my e-mail to the IPC Lead-Free mail list, which I have copied
below.

OK, here goes a short rant.

I received an internal "New Part Number Request" form with a part that the
vendor says will be compliant by 7/1/06.

HELLO!!! I need all my parts to be compliant by 4/1/06 (at the latest) so I
can integrate (assemble) them and test my product before shipping.
Are these vendors so arrogant that they don't realize the potential pain
this will cause their customers? Are they going to pay for the lost revenue
because we didn't get compliant parts until the day we need to ship
completed products?

Note to vendors, if you can't supply compliant parts when I need them I'll
find one that will.

Sigh. I feel better now, so I'll get off my soapbox.

Just my opinion, please don't be offended.

Are there any industry icons, movers and shakers or other influential types
out there that are listening that can help wake up manufacturers?

Being compliant BY 7/1/06 just ain't gonna cut it!

Kelly,
If they are telling you they are compliant EXCEPT for lead in
copper, they are not fully compliant with RoHS....

I am trying to verify RoHS Compliance for our inventory. I have a question
about a response I got from T&B. Their answer for many of their products is
"Compliant under RoHS except lead in copper". Can anyone tell me if this is
truly OK under the directive? Thanks for any help on this.
