Victor,

We have seen similar failures when insufficient heat was applied to the
pin during soldering. The finished solder joint looked good, but the
"joint" was simply a form fit bond with flux. This is particularly a
problem in cases where 0.093 thick boards are used with connectors
intended for 0.062 thick boards. Unfortunately most connector
manufacturers only make through hole parts of 0.062 thick boards.

Subject: [TN] FW: Lead Free Solder Joint on straight Pin connector

Fellow TechNetters:

Is the solder joint on LF so weak that a connector lead can be PULLED
out of the PTH without damage to the copper barrel?

The pin came straight out. The annular ring on both sides of the PWB
are intact. What Gives.

Have never witness this artifact with SnPb solder joints before.

Victor,
