Microns are smaller units of measure than MICRO INCHES.

Gil,

I think you meant microinches and not microns.  An intermetallic layer
that was 8 microns thick after reflow would be 320 microinches thick and
which is in many cases thicker than the SnPb plating typically put on
component leads.

Hi Antonio,

The max thickness should not exceed 6 micron. Any reflow stage add about
2 micron to the intermetalic layer.
