Good Morning Thomas,

We would suggest doing a combination of Ion Chormatography (IC) and Surface
Insulation Resistance (SIR) to qualify new materials, especially when
transitioning to a new flux. The IC will allow you to characterize the flux
by identifying and quantifying the remaining ionic species post processing.
Additionally, the IC can aid in determining if your aqueous cleaning process
is effective at removing the remaining flux residues. Further, IC can
identify many different organic species. Omegameters do not have the ability
to specify each ion species, rather the value that is generated is for the
total ionic (all ionic speicies) content measured on the board.

SIR is good for determining if the leftover flux residues are going to put
your boards at risk of electrochemical problems, such as dendritic growth
and/or corrosion.

It has been our experience that the combination of these two tests gives a
pretty good overall feel for how the the flux will perform from a residue
standpoint. Hope this helps. If you would like to discuss further, please
feel free to contact me offline.

Best Regards,

Joe Russeau
