I suspect the shaking just dislodged the component, and did not necessarily
break of the 'filament'.  The pressure from the pick and place head would
surely just flatten the filament, which would presumably then reflow with
the solder paste.

I do not have that capability.  And, since we haven't had a mis-pick since
vibrating the reel, I feel the evidence may be destroyed.
