Visited my car service man today for shifting from summer to winter
wheels. He told me something that I don't whether to laugh at or cry.
The small Lead balance bits which are fitted on the wheel must not be
made of Lead anymore, the service man has to use a special zinc alloy
instead. Old packages with some 100 pcs use to cost some 10 dollars, the
new set costs 250 dollars! He cried because he has to take that money
from the customer. The old bits are always removed from scrap wheels,
gathered in a box and sent regularly to a destruction company, who melts
the Lead for use as divers belts and other purposes, i.e. they are
recirculated and are not poisoning the nature. I think they go to far
those EU bureaucrats..
