Terry, You're right. I could see these softwares working
for "vanilla" boards. When dealing with designs that have
unbalanced copper distribution on the outerlayers, or with
small, thin boards shipping in array, or boards with plated
edges, these are just some other characteristics of a PCB
that influence the panelization and require human
intervention.

As long as you know your vendor's keep pot areas for such
things as board to
board spacing for routing single boards verses arrays.
Coupon area required,
panel to board edge spacing area required if there are
fingers, etc.no
software will truly help you from a end user point of view.
