Yes. There are many companies that specialize in infrared temperature
sensors, try Omega www.omega.com/products.html . There are others out
there as well. Omega makes an IR temperature sensor that can detect
changes in temperature to within 1 degree and you can see the
holographic temperature spread over very large surfaces. We use it to
detect electrical shorts. We can see the short if it generates as little
as a few milliwatts. We have even traced inner layer shorts on a
24-layer card.

Subject: [TN] Heat Sensing Equipment

Hello Technetters...

A customer of mine is wondering if there is a piece of equipment (a
camera, lens, or something similar) that can capture "heat" that is
being generated off of a board. Ideally the equipment would be able to
show "hot spots" on the board. (Different colors for different heat
ranges).

Is there something like this out there in the industry?

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks,

Rich
