Hi Randy,

I like all the suggestions made so far but want to remind you that the intent was to connect the chassis to the board ground, so a non-oxidizing surface finish is required when the repair is completed.

In my experience, I have used a microblaster, soldering irons, and eraser processes to do this, and each has pros and cons.

A skilled operator can take off the soldermask using a dremel tool with a rubber tip (or buffing pad) very efficiently.

No matter what the method for removal, pretin the exposed copper.

The resultant surface needs to be wicked off using copper braid so that it is as flat as the other pads.

Hope this helps,

Phil

Thank you I will keep that one as an option. The fab house is over seas
so we are looking to more locally domestic sources.

Re: [TN] Solder Mask Removal

It certainly would make most sense to send the unpopulated boards back to
the board house for rework. However, if the product was not built
domestically, the freight back and forth would more than offset the rework
costs if done locally. I have heard that a rubber or soft plastic mask and
a soda blaster works well for a problem mask removal such as Randy's. FWIW
