I agree the board house should be doing this. In the example I
described, I did this at the board house for them, and qualified the
process by doing a sample of 5 and bringing them up through the process.
The board fabricator finished the job on their own. I used their pwb
milling machine to set this up on.
The laser ablation also sounds like a good idea. At the time that I did
the sanding, I don't think anyone in a pwb fab house even knew what the
word ablation meant. Am I dating myself? Yes, it was back in the 80's.

Why should you fix it if the fab house made the mistake? Make the fab
house fix it ASAP. If they won't fix it, bill them back for your time
to repair. And the harshest solution would be to find a new fab house.

But if all else fails, Richard's solution sounds like the most
repeatable with the least sloppy damage to the board.

Subject: [TN] Solder Mask Removal

Hey y'all,

We have several hundred boards that are supposed to have the solder
mask
removed for around a mounting hole on the back side of the board. The
fab house missed. We are faced with a total remake if I cannot find
some way to remove the solder mask relatively easy. Most are still fab
boards, but I do have some that are assembled.

Any ideas would be appreciated. The clear area has to be approx 1/2 "
dia. (is for grounding)
