Geoff, we've just been through press-fit testing and did an FR4
poly/glass comparison as I was also concerned about laminate cracking.
Have to say I was pleasantly surprised and we didn't find anything
untoward (used ERNI connectors). Have yet to look at the newer filled
high Tg FR4's, but based on the poly/glass result I wouldn't expect
problems

Does anybody have information about the suitability of polyimide (or any
other high temp laminate) with press fit pins. 

It doesn't seem a good idea to me to use them with poyimide being more
brittle than FR4 but are there any guidelines anywhere?
