Good suggestion, but I'm wondering how tedious is would be to
apply the coating and not get it all over the leads. The coating that
gets applied is a urethane coating...we use Conap CE-1155 and it'll
take a few reflow cycles with no discoloring at all...I've tried it.
The coating idea won't work for all parts though. I know some of the
DC/DC converters (from Interpoint I believe) cannot have any coating
on them at all due to heat dissapation requirements.
I've called and talked with Kyzen, and the 4512P should not affect the
marking. On the occasions that the marking has come off, it has done
so by flaking off, or come off in the piece of tape that we've covered it
with trying to protect it. So it looks like we're going to have to go through
the long and tedious process of taking this issue up with the component
manufacturers...and it's more than just a few. If it were Kyzen affecting the
markings, they would be dissolving off, not flaking.
I appeciate Les Bogert's response in regards to using a label, but that
means you have to record the date code and serial number of the part
before building the assembly so that you can record accurate information
on the label if you need one later...just more paperwork. But, if you gotta',
you gotta'....

Hi Ramon,
It's been quite a while since we did this but to the best of my
recollection (it's tough getting older)I believe we applied conformal
coating to component ID after reflow and before any wet processing.

Didn't the CC discolored, or better yet darkened
after the reflow oven? I ask this question since the baking temp for CC
is a lot lower than the reflow temp. I am all for it, if it works. I am
just curious.
