WE HAVE CONTACT LANDS (GOLD PLATED BRASS) SOLDERED ON A PCB. AND THEY HAVE A MATE WITH RECIPROCAL SPRING CONTACTS AS A POWER SWITCH.

WE NEED TO ELEVATE THE CONTACT LANDS TO DECREASE THE CONTACT RESISTANCE. SO WE USED A RING (SILVER PLATED) BETWEEN THE PCB AND CONTACT LAND (GOLD PLATED) BEFORE SOLDERING THEM. DOES THIS SITUATION CAUSE ANY PROBLEM ?

I THINK WE CAN'T USE ANY PLASTIC RING BECAUSE OF THE SPRING PRESSURE (FROM THE OPPOSITE PART) AND THE SOLDERING CONSTRAINTS.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR HELP INGEMAR..

Subject: [TN] SV: [TN] Soldering gold and silver together

Jewellers have joined gold and silver together back to keltic practice,
so it works nice as a gem, but you have to do with connectors, i.e.
current and voltage and maybe even humidity and heat. Using tin, you
will get some intermetallics and maybe brittle joints. When you
connect/disconnect the parts there may be some uncalculated forces.
Manipulating connectors is a dubious thing, depending on what pins you
are talking about: subminiature? Signal? Power? I think most of us would
like to see a photo and some more technical information. Ask Steve to
put a pic on the wall before you go on.

Why do you need a metallic ring? Can't you use some 'plastic' distance
rings?
Inge

Dear all,

We put silver plated ring on the connectors pin to be able to lift up
connectors from PCB. Connector pins are gold plated.
Is it possible to solder (tin) a gold plated and a silver plated
material together ? Two of them can be soldered individually, but can
they be soldered together using tin ?
Any problems we may face to kd

Thank you.
Tugmen.
