Hi Ray,

I can't see any reason why your VFD supplier should not be able to
provide units that comply with the RoHS Directive. Unlike LCDs, for
instance, which require mercury for backlighting, VFDs technology is
based on self-emitting light. A VFD consists simply of a tungsten
filament cathode, a thin metal mesh and a phosphor-printed anode all
encased in vacuum glass with connecting lead pins sticking out. The only
restricted substance would be the Pb solder on the leads.

I would press them for details, asking them to explicitly state what
materials they claim are not compliant.

We are already receiving RoHS-compliant displays from two different
vendors.

Todd

Subject: [LF] Vacuum Fluorescent Display

Our supplier told us that this type of display cannot comply with RoHS
Directive at the moment. Is there anyone familiar with any RoHS
compliant component or is this device an exempted material?

Thanks,

Ray
