I've read an email from (a very large electronic manufacturer) that basically said that most or all equipment built by Video Security and Monitored Security manufacturers is exempt (for now) from following the RoHS directive due to Article 2(1).

The claim is that the entire CCTV and industrial / home security market is not required to meet the 1 July 2006 deadline.

The Scope of the RoHS directive is given in Article 2(1), and refers to all categories listed in WEEE directive EXCEPT for Annex 1A Categories 8 & 9.

From my reading in WEEE Annex 1B - Monitoring & Control Instruments seem to be home or industrial appliances that could be a danger to the safety of life or property if not monitored or controlled in real-time.

I haven't seen anyone address this - anyone have ideas or interpretations on this? Has anyone else heard of this?

     Thanks,
     Mark
