I think everyone on this thread is still
re-arranging the chairs on the deck of the Titanic....

Yeah, what Roger says! ;-) Besides, I like the logo idea. A "union"
might be too strong of a theme to use. Maybe a "council" - oh yeah, we
have that already. "Designed by CID" That would work, wouldn't it?

Cherie

Thought only the bulk of component origin and final assembly point needs
to be in the US for something to be labelled Made in USA. Ask Toyota,
Honda, Behr, etc.

My company has been putting Designed in USA on boards for a while, since
we have some eng'g facilities outside USA, and it helps distinguish
where a design comes from (like our people don't already know...).

Besides, sounds like tougue in cheek from George!

Regards,
Roger

Sorry, Cherie, but if you can't mark a board MADE IN USA unless every
part is MADE IN USA (an absolute impossibility), is seems reasonable to
any government weenie that it can't be marked DESIGNED IN USA unless
everything used in the design was DESIGNED IN USA. Remember, everything
not specifically permitted is prohibited when you're dealing with the
government...

And you'll have the Department of Redundancy Department after you for
arguing about it, too <:^)

Excuse me???? (I can't let this one slip by.) Software does not
"design" a board. It's just a tool that is used to do the work. Even if
you auto route, the "Designer" has to set up all the rules to make that
work.

Cherie

Depends on which software package you use, Gary. Can't have DESIGNED IN
USA on a board if you are using software programmed off shore :)

Most of us in the USA who've been designing boards for several years
might remember when we could put "MADE IN USA" on our boards and we did
so with pride.

Then in 1997 the Federal Trade Commission issued their "ENFORCEMENT
POLICY STATEMENT ON U.S. ORIGIN CLAIMS (Federal Trade Commission,
December 1997)".
You can Google it and read all the legalese.

Since then, except for the exceedingly rare situation whereby a company
fabricates all its glass and assembles all its components totally in the
USA, we can't, and don't, put "MADE IN USA" on our boards any more.

But how about "DESIGNED IN USA"? Is anybody in this forum putting
"DESIGNED IN USA" on their boards? That would seem to be permissible
within the legalese of the FTC document under Section B, "Claims about
Specific Processes or Parts".

Or have our oligarchs, with their offshoring of PCB assembly, already
rendered "DESIGNED IN USA" also a dead horse?

Best Regards,
